There is something rather special about autumn.
The golden colours, the misty mornings and the quiet that slowly settles over the countryside. The days are getting shorter, the air feels colder, and life on the farm begins to move at a different pace.
I love these early mornings when the fields are covered in mist and the trees are glowing in shades of gold and copper.
The horses seem perfectly happy with the changing season, grazing peacefully while the sun slowly rises over the fields.
And when the days become darker, I find myself spending more and more time in the kitchen.
Autumn is a wonderful season for cooking, baking and gathering around the table.
Autumn in the Kitchen
As much as I love being outdoors, autumn always draws me back into the kitchen.
There is something comforting about preparing seasonal food while the weather changes outside.
Pumpkins, pears, walnuts, fresh herbs and beautiful autumn vegetables are some of my favourite ingredients at this time of year.
I love setting the table with old china, linen napkins, flowers and branches gathered from the garden.
Nothing needs to be too perfect. A few simple things from nature can make a table feel wonderfully inviting.
Little Pear Tarts
Pears are one of my favourite fruits to bake with in autumn.
I love their delicate sweetness, especially when combined with buttery pastry, almonds and warm spices.
These little pear tarts are almost as lovely to look at as they are to eat.
A simple afternoon treat, served slightly warm with coffee or a little whipped cream.
And of course, I cannot resist decorating the table with a few beautiful autumn leaves.
The Beauty of Autumn
I love how autumn makes me appreciate the little things.
The mist hanging over the fields in the morning, the horses grazing quietly, the changing colours of the trees and the pleasure of bringing something fresh from the garden into the kitchen.
There is always something to do on a farm, but this time of year reminds me to slow down every now and then.
To enjoy a quiet morning, gather a few beautiful leaves, light some candles and make something lovely to eat.
Autumn may bring shorter days and colder weather, but it also brings a special kind of beauty.
And I wouldn't want to miss a moment of it.
