Storfjord Hotel - Boutique Hotel

An unforgettable winter escape at Storfjord Hotel, Norway.

There is something truly magical about the Norwegian west coast in winter. The snow-covered mountains, the stillness of the fjords and the beautiful, soft winter light.

In November 2016, we spent a wonderful weekend at Storfjord Hotel, a beautiful boutique hotel tucked away in the hills just outside Ålesund.

We were there with a group of friends to celebrate a 50th birthday, and it turned out to be such a lovely occasion. 

Having grown up in this part of Norway, the landscape was familiar to me, but experiencing it from this beautiful little hideaway was something rather special.

The hotel, with its traditional timber architecture, warm interiors, crackling fireplaces and magnificent views of the fjord, has such a welcoming atmosphere. Everywhere you look, there are beautiful details, natural materials and that wonderful feeling of being somewhere truly peaceful.

And just outside the door, the surrounding countryside invites you to explore, with lovely walking trails and breathtaking views across the mountains and fjord.

I have always loved places that feel both elegant and homely, where you can curl up by the fire, enjoy a good meal and simply forget about time for a while.

Storfjord Hotel was exactly that kind of place.

A little note from today

Looking back at these photographs ten years later makes me smile.

Little did I know, when we visited Storfjord Hotel in 2016, that life would eventually bring me back to this beautiful part of Norway.

Today, my husband and I welcome guests to our own farm, Heimgar, where we have the pleasure of working with 62°NORD, the hospitality group behind Storfjord Hotel.

Life has a lovely way of coming full circle.

And Storfjord Hotel remains every bit as special in my memories as it was on that beautiful November weekend.
